Why is my Hoover Carpet Cleaner Not Releasing Water? (Top Reasons, Fixes)

All appliances are prone to malfunction. Especially, carpet cleaners can easily fall into malfunction due to dust and debris. The major issue with carpet cleaners is their inability to spray or release water when the trigger is pressed. This issue happens with Hoover carpet cleaners too.

Therefore, we are going to discuss the possible reasons for the Hoover carpet cleaner to not release water and fix them easily.

Why is my Hoover Carpet Cleaner Not Releasing Water

Why is my Hoover Carpet Cleaner Not Releasing Water?

Hoover carpet cleaner may not be able to release water due to the following reasons:

  • A clogged spray hole in the spray head
  • A blocked water and dust filter
  • A low water level in the clean water tank
  • A broken water releasing trigger button
  • An airlock in the water spraying hose

We shall now understand what happens when these issues occur and know how to fix them easily.

Clogged Spray Holes in Spray Head

The water spraying holes are usually quite tiny to spray the water with a higher pressure. Due to the tiny hole size, there are chances for small debris to get stuck inside it.

Also, if you are using salt water, scale formation can block the holes completely. Sometimes, if you are using a cleaning solution other than Hoover’s cleaning liquid, there is a possibility for it to block the holes due to crystal formation.

Therefore, you have to clean the spray holes and take preventive measures to avoid clogged holes in the future.

Fix

  • The spray holes are present in between the brushes. Therefore, you need to remove the panel from the bottom and reach the spray head.
  • You might also have to remove the brush head to have a clear view of the spray nozzle holes.
  • Once you get a view of the holes, check for deposits. You can also use a magnifying glass to view it more clearly.
  • Create a mixture with lemon juice, vinegar, and baking soda and apply it over the holes. Using a brush, scrap the deposits off and wash them thoroughly.
  • Now replace the brush head and the main panel.
  • Turn on the cleaner and check for water output from the holes.

Prevention

  • Don’t use hard water in the carpet cleaner
  • Don’t use cleaning solutions from other brands
  • After cleaning, use some fresh water and run the water through the spray holes to remove dust or debris

Blocked Water and Dust Filter

The water from the clean water tank is not used straight away. There are chances for dust and debris inside clean water tank. Therefore, the water is filtered before it is passed on to the spray head.

If you use fresh water, the chances of a blocked filter are less. But, even in that case, as time passes, the filter will have built up some dirt which must be cleaned.

Removing the dirt from the filter will open the pores and allow water to pass through it.

Fix

  • Try to locate the filter by removing the water tank. If you cannot find it, use the user manual and locate the filter
  • Once you locate the filter, remove it and start cleaning it under freshwater
  • If you have a pressure water gun, use it to remove blocks of dirt from the filter cloth
  • Hang the filter dry for some time and replace it
  • Now fill the water tank with fresh water and check the cleaner

Prevention

  • Don’t use dirty water to fill the carpet cleaner tank
  • Don’t keep the water inside the tank for long. Replace it frequently
  • Remove the filter periodically and clean it

Low Water Level in Clean Water Tank

This is another issue that many of us might not realize. Having a low water level can prevent the trigger from actuating and releasing the water. This is a safety feature provided by Hoover to avoid air locks in the circulation system. The pump that draws water from the tank may get an airlock due to insufficient water and the entire water line may get stuck. So, when this airlock happens, the spray line will have blocks of air in the entire line and it will not release water properly. You will have to prime the water line and it may become very difficult. Therefore, a low water level in the tank might prevent the release of water.

Fix

  • Fill the water tank completely and wait for some time.
  • Now press and hold the trigger to prime it with water.
  • Release the hold after 30 seconds and repeat it till water is released from the spray line.
  • You can also tilt the carpet cleaner at an angle towards the trigger side to prime it faster.
  • Once the entire water line is filled with water, your cleaner will start working normally.

Prevention

  • Don’t use the carpet cleaner with a low water level. Try to fill the water and solution till the marked areas in the tank
  • Check for damages in the water tank. Because slight cracks and holes might leak water continuously.
  • Never press the trigger when there is an empty water tank.

Broken Water Releasing Trigger Button

The trigger in the carpet cleaner spray handle helps you to release or hold the water when cleaning.

When moving forward with the cleaner, you will press the trigger to release water and wash the carpet. To dry the area, you will move backward with the cleaner without using the trigger. But if this trigger is broken, you cannot get it to spray the water.

So, you have to check the trigger button for damages and fix it to ensure the cleaner releases the water properly.

Fix

  • When there is a priming issue, the trigger may not work properly. So using the priming guide mentioned in the previous fix you can actuate the trigger.
  • If the trigger button is physically broken, then you have to approach your technician from Hoover to fix it.
  • The trigger switch might have some broken wires or worn-off contact leads. They must be replaced for the trigger to function.

Prevention

  • Avoid pressing the trigger often
  • Don’t use force to press the trigger
